Getting A Logo, Business Cards, And Letterhead For Your Law Firm

(Current as of August 2020)

One of the challenging realities to starting a successful law firm is that competition is fierce.  A professionally designed logo, business cards, and letterhead can help you stand out from the rest.

Logo Design

There are plenty of online graphic design services that’ll create a professional logo for your law firm for a reasonable fee.  Before hiring a graphic designer, you’ll want to review samples of previous work they’ve done.  You’ll also want to make sure there’s a clear understanding of how many design concepts and revisions are included in your price quote.

Design Concepts.  Unless you already have a clear idea of what type of logo you’d like, and are able to convey that idea to a graphic designer in detail, you’ll likely want to see a few different creative concepts (shapes, layouts, color schemes, etc.) before choosing one.  Logo design companies often price their packages based in part on how many initial design concepts you’ll be presented with.

Design Revisions.  Once you review your initial design concepts and settle on one that you like, you may still want your graphic designer to make a few tweaks before the logo is finalized.  Be sure that the package you choose allows you the flexibility to request design revisions.

DesignCrowd is a popular online platform that’ll allow you to source a variety of unique logo concepts from freelance graphic designers around the world, and to request revisions to your logo until you’re satisfied.

Business Cards And Letterhead

Many logo design services offer package deals that include business card and stationary design, too.  There are also online printing services that provide customizable templates you can fill in with your law firm’s logo and contact information.

Two small words of advice when shopping for business cards:

First, don’t order cards that are too thin.  They’ll be the cheapest option, of course, but when they’re placed side-by-side with business cards from your competitors, they’ll also look and feel the cheapest.  Consider going with no less than 16pt cardstock (and 18pt or more if you really want to stand out).

Additionally, don’t get glossy cards that you can’t write on.  People sometimes like to jot down notes on new business cards they’re handed (i.e. where they met the person, cell phone number, follow-up items, etc.).  Choose a matte finish that will hold ink from a pen.

Moo and VistaPrint are two popular online printing services that’ll allow you to customize one of their existing business card/stationary templates, or upload a design of your own.
